Offsite Factory Visit: Investigating Pre-made Building Elements

Adrian Fratelle recently took some work experience students along to see the Offsite factory in Kewdale. Ecohabit specifies Offsite wall frames, floor cassettes, and roof cassettes for many of our designs.

They build three different systems, being, standard 90mm stud wall frame, highly insulated and airtight frame systems for passive house builds, and Pop Up system utilizing 190mm LVL framing with polystyrene insulation blocks. The latter we used on The White Gum Valley project and the passive house system was used on The Kensington House. You can see both in our portfolio.

The benefit of utilizing Offsite comes in speed and quality. Factory built products are inherently far superior in accuracy to anything that can be built on-site and frames can be built whilst site works are being prepared. The speed of this style of construction is at least twice as fast as a brick home. Framing on a 250m² home can be up in only a few days. Frames can be delivered fully clad inside and out including windows. A building can be at lock up stage in a few weeks.
