India Set to Receive the World’s Cheapest Electric Car at $12.5k

The world’s cheapest electric car, speculated to sell for between $12,500-$16,000 (depending on the extras available), will be released in India this year. The Ora R1 by Chinese Great Wall Motor takes 40 minutes to charge from zero to 80% battery, and on a full charge has a range of 350kms. It has a maximum speed limit of 100km/hr, and a voice activated wake up system (you have to say “Hello, Ora”) and interesting aesthetics to say the least… It is great to see reducing price points for electric vehicles making them more accessible, however if we want to see the environmental benefits we have to ensure that the energy used to charge the cars is also from sustainable sources. Would you buy this car if it only cost you $12,500?
